Hi, I’m Roxy

Happy wife, messy mum, multiple business owner, website wizard, business coach, psychotherapist, travel lover, meditator, course junkie, girl geek, sports superfan, book binger, block buster, emotional empath.

Back in my corporate career days, I was known as the girl who would ‘get stuff done’. I talked constantly, was almost certainly incredibly annoying, but super smart, flew through jobs and worked quickly. I fought against doing the “pointless” stuff, wanted to get on with things and take some action!

I’ve grown up somewhat now! I learned about how our brains work and found my utter passion – teaching real people, real skills in a very real, practical, action-focused way!

HOW AM I QUALIFIED TO HELP YOU?

MENTAL HEALTH THERAPIST

I’m a qualified, practising psychotherapist and clinical hypnotherapist, with extra training in coaching, stress management and NLP. Quite a mouthful!

I’ve had a successful private practice for 9 years now, and I specialise in anxiety, depression, women’s health and ‘stuckness’ – though there must be very little I haven’t seen!

BUSINESS COACH & TRAINER

For around 7 years I’ve been helping people build and grow their businesses. I fell into it almost accidentally, but had a great mentor and a natural flair for building quick rapport and teaching in a manner that people understand!

I specialise in empowering people, creating cohesive teams and adding autonomy and confidence.

ALTHOUGH I’M THE TRAINER, I’M NOT ALONE!

Although it started as me – it’s now a family business! My sister, Jade, has worked with me for a couple of years and looks after the admin, socials and email marketing for some of the businesses.

Then in April this year, my husband Tom took a year’s sabbatical from his corporate job. His skills lie in data and design. He’s backstage, analysing what we do, distilling unintelligible figures into useful data, split testing, SEOing and advertising. He’s also a design whizz and builds websites and makes videos.

Between us as a small team – you wouldn’t believe how much we’ve got covered!!

MY EXPERIENCE

It’s fair to say I’ve been around the block – both personally and professionally! That’s one of my greatest strengths and brings the down-to-earth, relatable quality to all of my training that I’m well known for. I’m open and honest about all of my experiences and use them where appropriate to build rapport and establish my credibility!

PERSONALLY…

I’m from a mining family in a pit village in south Sheffield. In 1987, when I was 2, I was 70% scalded – and my parents were told I would die. I spent months in intensive care, and when it became clear that I didn’t really fancy death, my family were told I’d have to have my feet and hands amputated, then I’d never walk, never go in the sunshine, possibly never have children…

But, after having skin grafts until I was 22, in 2014 as I walked down the beach on my wedding day in Mexico, and my husband slid the ring onto my categorically un-amputated finger, we had a private smile about the fact I was already pregnant with the first of our two boys…

I definitely don’t like other people making decisions about what I can or can’t do – and it makes a BRILLIANT inspirational story that I’m happy to share!

Watch the BBC interview – or just Google me. I’ve been in a few publications!

PROFESSIONALLY…

I’ve always had grit. That fierce independence that made me want more – for everyone! I started work as soon as I turned 16 in a mobile phone shop. Turned out I had a knack for selling – but really, it was listening that was my skill. I heard what the customer wanted – and sold them exactly that, with improvements if necessary! I didn’t force them to take whatever I got most commission for, unlike many of the other sales staff.

I learned quickly, progressed fast but then when it came to “doing my time” in roles to reach the next promotion, I left! I spent a few years moving through jobs, gaining slight promotions but I never wanted to commit to the wait for the next step. Years later I can attribute that to my ADHD brain but I was often called flighty. I was frustrated and bored – but energetic and diligent. I love learning even now, so I soaked up everything I could about the businesses and cultures I worked in.

I worked across the retail, law, media, corporate and medical professions in loads of different capacities, before finally being given the push to retrain and start my own business when I fell pregnant at 28 and realised I needed to be able to make my own rules!

Studying mental health, becoming a mum AND starting a business when my son was 4 months old certainly tested my grit! I loved it. It made me see where I’d been stuck for so long and gave me the complete freedom to learn and to teach.

Listening and teaching are my skills. I can understand quickly and translate that so that others get it too.

Since 2014 I built a business that grew and morphed. It started as a mental health therapy practice, that was quickly successful. As a therapist I’ve been quoted as an expert in publications including Psychologies, Stylist, Elle, Sport Bible, YEP and My London – and still actively contribute.

From there I began showing other people how to run businesses and slowly morphed into business coaching. A local enterprise centre used me to run courses for them, I set up some online members clubs training and teaching business skills and I’ve done a whole heap of work with local government including coaching their staff and running their business growth events programmes, alongside running their social media and email marketing to support it and designing and building the website.

It grew and grew… I’ve run 5 events for the Virgin Media, O2 and giffgaff women’s networks – with 2 more scheduled, along with some big motivational and stage talks.

I love what I do. I love how it changes all the time and how adaptable I get to be! & I’d LOVE to work with you!!
